I know the politically correct term is no longer Marley Hair, but Marley Maintenance has a nicer ring to it than does Afro Twist Braid Maintenance. Anywho the message remains the same! Here are a few tips to maintain and retain the most growth in that protective twist or braid style with added hair or none at all! Installation: Whether installing yourself or getting the style done, make sure to coat your hair with a leave-in conditioner of your choice and a cream moisturizer (particularly if the leave-in is water-based). I personally like to spritz the 'Marley' Hair with my Taliah Wajid Moisture Clenz and spread it through the the length of the each strand to avoid that excessive drying feeling. Scalp Stimulation: Massage, Massage, Massage that scalp gyal! This step at anytime and often during your journey will definitely stimulate growth, as the gentle massage will increase blood circulation to the scalp. Gently massage the entirety of your crown everyday for at least 3-5 minutes. In order to provide moisture, use an essential oil (i.e.: lavender, rosemary, etc.) if you feel your scalp is dry. *These Marley twists were 4 wks old* Moisture: Now that we've covered our scalps let’s talk about those strands. Section off your locks into 4-6 sections and moisturize the entire length of your hair with leave-in, and coat with an oil of your choice*. I like to use my Lavender Jamaican Black Castor Oil (sparingly though as it can be very heavy) when doing this step to promote even more growth. Do this three (3) times a week. * Don't rub down the strand. Instead blot/squeeze down the strand to avoid as much frizz as possible. Cleansing: Washing your hair with the twists/braids installed can cause major frizz, maybe matting at the root and possible damage to your hair. Avoid this and try a cleansing spray on the scalp like the Moisture Clenz mentioned above. Spritz all up and around the scalp once a week! SleepyTime: Using a bandana, pull all the hair to the top of your head. Use a satin scarf to secure the back and cover those edges or just sleep on a satin pillow and style as usual in the A.M. Follow these tips and maintaining this protective style will be a piece of cake. Let us know how these tips help you! Sincerely Yours, Sista Jay
